What's it like at Parkway?

When the term”Parkway ” is used , there are different things that come to mind.  Some people know extensively about Parkway because they’ve currently  attend Parkway, while others only have a faint notion from what their friends have told them.  However, an interview with Amanda McClain, a junior and 2-year attendee of Parkway, describes her day-to-day life in Parkway. She describes how she attends morning classes at Carlynton until 4th period, where she is called down to the bus to leave for Parkway.  A Parkway student can either buy their lunch before they get on the bus, or pack their lunch and quickly eat during the 10-minute bus ride. Once at Parkway, she leaves her bookbag in her designated locker and signs in to Digital Multimedia, or DMM. There, she learns various graphic design skills and practices.  If she chooses to, she can use her degree from Parkway to go directly to the workforce and be hired by a company.     Amand...

Girls Win Against South Allegheny

On October 17th, we witnessed a strong win by the Lady Cougars Varsity Volleyball team against Steel Valley.   It was also Senior Night, which meant several longstanding players were recognized for their efforts over the years, including Ainsley Pearce, Jaelyn Melko, Erin Fox, and Sierra Segeleon.   Our Cougars were fierce and unrelenting in their game, ultimately winning the section match.  It helped the Girls solidify the third place spot in their section and clinch a WPIAL playoff berth.

Spanish Students of the Month

A student of the month is an individual who shows an outstanding work of determination and responsibility. The Spanish teacher, Mrs. Rusinko, has been seeking for those qualities in students over the past month. Since 2014, Carlynton Jr. Sr. High School has been hosting Spanish classes with Mrs. Rusinko. These students get to pick from a list of Spanish names and are called that when somebody needs their attention. During this class, students explore a world of unique cultures and learn about the diversity between many Spanish countries and the United States. The Spanish students of the months, Bridget (Lola) Maloy, Clara (Diego) Keller, Leah, (Celia) Zielinski, and Shelby (Gabriela) Palmer have shown a great deal of hard work and dedication throughout the month. They have put a lot of time and effort into becoming exceptional individuals. Being chosen as a student of the month is quite an honor and these student should be proud. Olivia Thompson 7t...

Homecoming Dance

Homecoming is something many people look forward to during their high school years. For the Sophomores, it's one of the first traditional dances they’re invited to. For Juniors, it's a celebration of growing up, a right of passage. And for Seniors, it's one of the last big dances they attend before graduation, and a chance to run for Homecoming King or Queen. Homecoming court always creates a stir among students, be it underclassmen wondering which running seniors will win titles, or hopeful voters eager to see if their favorite candidate will be crowned King or Queen.  This year, however, Homecoming elections sparked a very different conversation among students. Initially scheduled for  Friday's pep rally, the heavily anticipated  announcements of King and Queen were postponed until the Homecoming football game at the last minute. Mr. Loughren teased students on stage with an envelope holding the King and Queen winners, building suspense before announcing...

Homecoming Game

On the first Friday of October, our Cougars played a tough football game against the Burgettstown Blue Devils. Lead by coach Rich Piccinini, the Cougars took a loss of 47-0. Though this news maybe disappointing, something that might brighten your mood could be the thought of the 2019 Homecoming King and Queen.  Those honors go to Dallas Paolino and Maggie Reigle. Congratulations! I would also like to congratulate the students who were selected for Homecoming court. Congrats to Nick Cindrich, Erin Fox, Jada Lee, Makayla Linn, Dakota Mayfield, Ainsley Pearce, Mark Phillips, and Evan Staker.   Dallas Paolino, our homecoming king, won our team 115 yds, but sadly no touchdowns. On the defensive side #51, Ben Ray, made 7 solo tackles. Because of these awesome plays, the Devils only had 14 points in the first quarter, 10 in the second, 16 in the third and 7 in the fourth. To someone who doesn’t understand the sport this would be a very disappoint...

Carlynton vs. Avonworth

The Carlynton Cougars boys soccer team pulled out with a 4-0 win against Avonworth. At halftime it was 2-0, then the team scored two more!! This was a must-win game for our varsity soccer team, in order to pursue Section titles. It was also senior night, so the game kicked off with recognizing their years of accomplishments. Seniors are Captain Carnel Kerr, starter Mark Phillips, goalie Nick Hunter, Ben Carothers, Sam Bigham, and Marco Moorby. Demetrius Howe (Junior) is the other captain and saw some great scores throughout the night. In fact, each captain scored 2 goals each, causing joyous uproar in the student section of the stands. The next home game will occur this Thursday. Grace Prepelka, 7th grade

Yearbook Committee Searching For Members

If you enjoy graphic design, writing, or are simply looking for a way to help Carlynton, you may consider joining yearbook committee, the group that designs and publishes the yearbook. Meetings are typically during homeroom, and most often occur once a month. Anyone can join! Each member will assemble a few pages in the yearbook, and is able to suggest design elements, such as the cover.  If you would still like to help, but aren’t certain you can devote enough time to be on committee, there is a website where you can upload photos concerning Carlynton events onto. These photos will be considered for use by the yearbook Committee. The website is: www.hjeshare.com , the school code is: Carlynton For more information see Mrs. Fischer in room 112.
