Fashion Bash

Junior Martial Delrosario styles a short, black dress at Carlynton’s second annual Fashion Bash. 
On the 29th of February, Carlynton held its second annual Fashion Bash. The Fashion Bash had dual purposes- to raise funds for Prom, and to showcase various styles one might choose to wear to prom. It was held from seven to nine in the Shop. The main event was the fashion show, where for a total of about 30 minutes 44 dresses and nine suits were modelled. In addition, some girls modelled hair styles with more casual dresses. This served to advertise Dani's Hair Loft.

Many of the dresses modelled were donated, but seven were rented from David’s Bridal. The suits modelled came from Men’s Warehouse. Jewelry, made by Paparazzi Independent Consultant, nails from Color Street, and flowers from Bella Flora Shoppe were also shown. 

The emcees of the evening were Alaiyah Burks, Erin Fox, and Savannah Sevacko. They described the styles of the evening. After the fashion show portion, a silent auction was held where attendees could bid on the 37 dresses up for sale. There was also a clearance rack, with all dresses there going for 15 dollars. 

In addition, there was a coffee and dessert bar for attendees, as well as a Chinese Auction. After a break, the winners of the auctions were announced, and the event was over.
Anya Corrassco, one of the main coordinators for the event, reported it was a success. “We raised close to 2,000 dollars,” she said “that takes off one-fifth the cost of the venue, and will definitely help lower the price of the tickets.” Anya closed her remark by thanking everyone for their support, and for attending the event. Finally, coordinators announced that prom will be held at Bella Sera restaurant on May 20th.

Carlynton Middle School Football

On September 19th, the Carlynton Cougars played Keystone Oaks’ Golden Eagles. This game was one of the early games in the season. The score in the first quarter was 0-14 and 0-30 in the second quarter; however, in the third quarter the Carlynton Cougars got their first touchdown, making the score 6-30 at the end of the third quarter. The fourth quarter saw another touchdown, bringing the final score to 14-30. One of the Cougars remarked that they’d also lost to K.O. during their pre-season scrimmage, but they hope to improve over the season.  Next game for the Middle School Cougars is 9/26. Homecoming Dance

Homecoming is something many people look forward to during their high school years. For the Sophomores, it's one of the first traditional dances they’re invited to. For Juniors, it's a celebration of growing up, a right of passage. And for Seniors, it's one of the last big dances they attend before graduation, and a chance to run for Homecoming King or Queen. Homecoming court always creates a stir among students, be it underclassmen wondering which running seniors will win titles, or hopeful voters eager to see if their favorite candidate will be crowned King or Queen.  This year, however, Homecoming elections sparked a very different conversation among students. Initially scheduled for  Friday's pep rally, the heavily anticipated  announcements of King and Queen were postponed until the Homecoming football game at the last minute. CIS Chemistry Field Trip

On December 11, the 11th grade CIS (College In High School) Chemistry class went to Robert Morris University to survey the campus and conduct experiments in the Science Wing.  During the experiment, students mixed various liquids to determine their concentrations and potency, as well as how the liquids reflect blue light. As they measured the liquids, the students learned how to use different measurement tools, such as a “ repeater pipette”. The repeater pipette allows one to measure a certain amount of liquid by turning the dial to the desired number, then pressing the button until all of the liquid is inside the repeater pipette.  Afterwards, the button is pressed again to release the liquid. Since the CIS Chemistry students are currently  working on their midterm in the lab, one student stated, “It was a nice change of pace to try a different experiment, since we’ve been focused on getting the results we need back at Carlynton.”  I hope that t...
