Girls Varsity Soccer: Bethlehem Center vs. Carlynton (at Honus Wagner on 09/16/2019) On  Monday, September 16, I got to watch your Carlynton Girls Varsity soccer team, coached by Andy Bogats, earn a huge win against a non-section team, Bethlehem Center. The first half of the game seemed to play out very simply with no score from either team, although the teams fought hard for it. Your Cougars played a strong defense as Senior Captains, Anya Carrasco and Olivia Robb, worked with Kira Hill (Junior), and Audrey Robb (Sophomore), to help keeper, Sara Macmurdo (Junior), who prevented Bethlehem Center from scoring.  It seemed as though the girls’ half-time break invoked a sense of determination, as they scored 2 goals in the second half of the game. The first goal of the game was scored by  Freshman, Mikayla Walker, with a set shot from out past the eighteen; the second and final goal of the night was scored by Senior Captain, Savannah Sevacko, as she ensured...

Homecoming Dance

Homecoming is something many people look forward to during their high school years. For the Sophomores, it's one of the first traditional dances they’re invited to. For Juniors, it's a celebration of growing up, a right of passage. And for Seniors, it's one of the last big dances they attend before graduation, and a chance to run for Homecoming King or Queen. Initially scheduled for  Friday's pep rally, the heavily anticipated  announcements of King and Queen were postponed until the Homecoming football game at the last minute. Mr. Loughren teased students on stage with an envelope holding the King and Queen winners, building suspense before announcing...

CIS Chemistry Field Trip

On December 11, the 11th grade CIS (College In High School) Chemistry class went to Robert Morris University to survey the campus and conduct experiments in the Science Wing.  During the experiment, students mixed various liquids to determine their concentrations and potency, as well as how the liquids reflect blue light. As they measured the liquids, the students learned how to use different measurement tools, such as a “ repeater pipette”. The repeater pipette allows one to measure a certain amount of liquid by turning the dial to the desired number, then pressing the button until all of the liquid is inside the repeater pipette.  Afterwards, the button is pressed again to release the liquid. Since the CIS Chemistry students are currently  working on their midterm in the lab, one student stated, “It was a nice change of pace to try a different experiment, since we’ve been focused on getting the results we need back at Carlynton.”  I hope that t...
